Caribbean universities will issue their academic passport on blockchain with Izertis and SmartDegrees

7 January, 2021

Caribbean universities will have their academic passport based on blockchain, on the LACChain network, thanks to the collaboration of Izertis and SmartDegrees.

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has received funding from the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) to support a blockchain-based academic passport for its universities in 16 Caribbean countries. The system is to be deployed on LACChain, the Latin American blockchain network promoted by the IDB, based on the Alastria network, using the European Commission‘s Verifiable Credentials standard. For its development, CXC has hired Izertis, a Spanish technology consultancy firm that facilitates the digital transformation of organizations through a complete portfolio of technological and methodological capabilities.

In turn, Izertis has hired SmartDegrees to provide specialized blockchain consulting, with support in its meetings, as well as with the CXC and LACChain teams.

Caribbean Examinations Council is a regional board that provides examinations for secondary and post-secondary candidates in 16 countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. It awards certificates and diplomas as a result of its examinations. Its vision is to ensure the global competitiveness of the Caribbean in human resources through the provision of quality assurance in education and its comprehensive certification.

SmartDegrees offers specialized services in blockchain: Registration and certification of degrees and certificates in blockchain, Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and strategic business consulting, to facilitate the adoption of blockchain in the digital transformation of institutions and companies.
